Jaideep is Assistant Professor at the Centre for Climate Studies and group leader of Treehouse. He is also a Guest Research Scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria, and a Visiting Researcher at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Japan.
Tamanna's research broadly focuses on assessing the Photosynthetic Traits of, and Variations in Strategies observed in Plants under a variety of environmental conditions. Before joining as a PhD scholar, she did her Bachelors and Masters in Geography, and a PG Diploma in Geoinformatics. Outside the lab, you can usually find her feeding stray cats, practising music or doing art.
Samarpita is currently exploring the fascinating world of plant hydraulics. Her work delves into understanding hydraulic conductance and related functional traits to uncover adaptation strategies amid climate change. A happily confused soul, believing confusion is where science begins. Outside research, she experiments with vibrant Indian fusion cooking, hums melodies to recharge, and unapologetically embraces her sweet tooth. You'll often find her sitting below her own Bodhi tree on campus.
For Sushil, forests are places of belonging, and stepping into one feels like entering a story still unfolding. This drew him to the quiet pursuit of understanding how these living systems function, change, and endure, so that we may better protect them and the life they shelter. His work focuses on forest dynamics, exploring how climate and species traits shape forest demographics, structure, and composition.
Mohabbat's research explores how plants might behave in tomorrow's world, focusing on resource allocation between plant organs (allocation) and how their growth relationships shape overall plant form and function (allometry) under changing climates. He aims to improve the representation of tropical forests in vegetation models by combining experimental evidence, trait-based approaches, field observations and vegetation modeling. He low-key aspires to turn his research and experiences into stories that connect with people someday. Ultimately, he is part researcher, part storyteller.
Siddhi is currently pursuing a PhD in the field of governance of Commons from the perspectives of Indian Knowledge Systems and Game Theory. She is attempting to form an indigenous model of Commons governance. She is a curious soul, always eager to learn new things. She completed her graduation in Electronics and Telecommunication and has a Masters degree in Sociology. Apart from academics, she loves watching movies and OTT series, attending conferences, and having subsequent vicharmanthans on them. She enjoys performing arts like drama and Bharatanatyam.
Kiran is a Master of Technology student in Climate and Sustainability at IIT Bombay. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Forestry and a Post Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing & GIS from IIRS, ISRO. His research interests include forest ecology, vegetation dynamics, and climate change impact assessment.
Aseem is an undergraduate student at IIT Bombay pursuing a Bachelor of Technology in Engineering Physics, along with a minor in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. His interests include mathematics, computer science, data science, and their applications to engineering problems.
Tina graduated from IIT Bombay in 2024 with a Bachelor of Technology in Engineering Physics. Her interests include all kinds of books, environmental sustainability and tennis. She's a prolific science communicator and runs her own YouTube channel on climate and sustainability.
Atharva is a doctoral researcher specializing in the intersection of hydrology, ecology, and climatology. Supervised by Prof. Subimal Ghosh and Prof. Jaideep Joshi, his research investigates the resilience of Himalayan grasslands by mapping causal relationships between vegetation, microclimate, and carbon fluxes. An alumnus of VNIT Nagpur and IIT Ropar, Atharva focuses on developing hybrid modeling frameworks that integrate process-based physical understanding with advanced AI/ML approaches. Beyond his research, he is an avid sportsman and musician.
Shipra joined us as a postdoc in 2022 under the RESIST project at IIASA, Austria. She is working on assessing ecosystem services and stakeholder perspectives in the Himalayan region.
Rishi worked on developing a Visual Twin of the PlantFATE model.
Elisa joined us as a postdoc in the RESIST project since 2022. Her main supervisor is Florian Hofhansl. She is coupling Plant-FATE with IIASA's CWATM model to understand the food-water-biodiversity nexus in the Bhima basin in India.
Tania joined us as a postdoc in the RESIST project since 2022. Her main supervisor is Florian Hofhansl. She is exploring the coordination between fine-root traits.
